Backlit displays consist of photos, illustrations, and/or text printed on translucent polyester or vinyl and installed in a light box. When lit from behind, they give dramatic, vibrant image quality and therefore are used widely for advertising & promotions. No wonder you see them in so many places like the mall and the airport.

Backlits are usually installed in commercially-available boxes made specifically to light the prints evenly and provide an easy way to change the graphics regularly. They use a white "diffusing layer" between the print and the lights to evenly disperse the light and a clear layer in front of the print to protect it.

These types of prints can also be installed in windows and lit from behind without the backlit box hardware. See the section on window graphics for more info.
